Sydney is a fantastic city known for its great weather, laid back lifestyle, some famous landmarks, and some world-renowned beaches! If you are moving to Sydney, or just paying the city a visit, here are some of the top things to see and do...
This beautiful waterside area of Sydney sits right between the world-famous Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, and is a popular spot for tourists to come and explore these attractions (you can even climb the Harbour Bridge if you dare!). The Rocks is a fashionable historic area nearby that is well-known for its excellent upscale bars and restaurants and unique boutique shopping. The Royal Botanic Gardens are also just a short walk from Circular Quay.
Bondi Beach is a must-see, where you can watch the surfers, top up your tan, and take a wander around a charming town that features lots of great eats, nightlife and shopping - but do prepare for the crowds! Bondi is often absolutely packed on both the beach and in town. Other excellent beach trips include taking the scenic ferry ride across to Manly Beach, where you will sail right past the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, and arrive in a great seaside town that feels well-removed from the bustle of the city. Feeling active? Another great way to see the sights is to embark on the stunning coastal walk that links Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach, and features some excellent views.
Tourists flock to Darling Harbour for bars, restaurants, shopping and nightclubs - all of which are in plentiful supply in the area. Most weekends you'll find people taking advantage of the many rooftop bars and beer gardens here, enjoying lots of sunshine and live music. There is also an excellent free fireworks show every Saturday night. For further activities, Darling Harbour is also home to the world's largest IMAX screen, the Sydney Aquarium, Wildlife World and Madame Tussauds, as well as the Star Casino.
Sydney isn't a city famous for its theme parks, but the recent opening of a massive Wet n' Wild waterpark was an excellent addition to the city for tourists and locals alike, looking to cool off from the heat and have some fun. Luna Park is a more longstanding Sydney institution, a small city centre amusement park which has some great history.
On a Budget?
Shopping at Paddy's Markets can be a great experience. Visitors can take a wander around this massive area and check out an impressive array of goods on sale for low prices. For a cheap and cheerful meal, head to nearby Chinatown, where many restaurants have outdoor seating, a BYOB policy, and excellent noodle soup for less than 10 bucks!
