Clearing Kuwaiti Customs

Household goods and personal effects shipped to Kuwait are cleared at Shuwaikh Port by our appointed destination agent, and clearance depends on your residency documents being in place.

You must be in Kuwait before your shipment can clear. Your belongings cannot be released until you hold a valid Kuwaiti residence permit and Civil ID. Clearance is not possible in your absence.

Your documents must reach our agent at least five days before your container arrives. That includes your passport copy, stamped residence page, work entry visa or NOC, Civil ID, work permit and an authorisation letter from your employer naming our destination agent.

If your residency is still being processed, do not rush the shipment. Your packed belongings can wait in free UK storage until your paperwork is ready, rather than accruing storage charges at Shuwaikh.

1 What paperwork do I need?

For sea freight shipments of used household goods and personal effects you will typically need:

  • Copy of your passport photo page
  • Copy of your Kuwaiti residence permit, stamped in your passport, normally with at least 12 months' validity
  • Your work entry visa or NOC, stamped by Kuwait Immigration on arrival
  • Your Kuwait Civil ID
  • Your work permit
  • An authorisation letter from your employer in Kuwait, naming our destination agent
  • A detailed packing inventory
  • Shipping documentation for your removal

2 What can't I take to Kuwait?

Kuwait prohibits alcohol outright. It is not restricted or subject to duty, it is banned, and that includes home brewing equipment and anything associated with producing alcohol. Every shipment is inspected, and prohibited goods can be confiscated and destroyed.
