Clearing Dubai Customs
When moving household goods and personal effects from the UK to Dubai, your shipment must clear Dubai Customs before final delivery. We help prepare the required documentation and work with our destination agents to coordinate the customs clearance process.
What documents are needed for Dubai customs?
For personal-use household goods, Dubai Customs lists the following required documents:
- Passport or Emirates ID copy
- Residency visa copy
- List of imported goods
The Import Goods Declaration is submitted electronically by our customs broker through the Dubai Trade customs portal for clearance by Dubai Customs, together with the supporting shipment documentation.
What happens when my shipment arrives in Dubai?
Once your shipment arrives at Jebel Ali, our customs broker submits the Import Goods Declaration electronically through the Dubai Trade customs portal and presents your belongings for Dubai Customs clearance. Customs officers may inspect the goods or request further information before release.
Once clearance is complete, our destination team arranges final delivery to your home in Dubai.
Restricted and prohibited items
Dubai has strict rules covering what can be included in household goods shipments. Some items are prohibited, while others require approval from the relevant UAE authority.
Common examples include:
- Narcotic drugs – prohibited
- Gambling equipment and devices – prohibited
- Prescription medicines – some medicines require prior approval
- Foodstuffs – subject to restrictions and controls
- Plants and plant products – may require approval
- Radio and transmitting equipment – may require approval
